Maybe try undoing each injector in turn, see if one doesn't make engine sound crappy.

1m of leak of pipe
1 straigt joiner the correct size
pair of pliers
Look along the top of the engine you will see the injectors.
You will also see 3 pipes joing them with a pipe on the back one running back to the tank. there is a blank on the front one
step 1 carefully pull the pipe from the rear injector (the long one to the tank)
step 2 carefully remove the blank from the front injector and push it onto the rear one youj just removed
step 3 fit joiner into original return and attach the new leak off pipe
step 4 route it along the inlet manifold and cable tie it up
Step 5 cut it to length and fit it to the front injector where the blank was
check the rest of the pipes for splits whilst you are there
There you go job done
Hope this helps

Sounds like it's pulling air in at either the lift pump or filterhead connections.
