15 inch alloys possible?

Postby axxez » Thu May 01, 2014 8:12 pm

Hi guys!

I got the 6-stud axle on my 1990 Transit 100L with 14-inch alloys and always liked those 15-inch alloys with the holes. Do they fit without problems?

My wheels:

They wont fit :!: :( the PCD (hole circumference) is different on the older "6 studder's" and by the way they're steel wheels not alloys

That's ok...we all dream of alloys when we think of rims anyway

Given you have an early (pre '91) transit you MAY just get away with redrilling some Landrover weller wheels after welding up the old holes. I don't think anyone has tried before?

The later (post '91) have a larger pattern and there is no room on a weller for the studs/nuts

You need a PCD of 6 x 170mm, later ones have 6 x 180mm, landrovers have a 5 x 165mm pattern

Ok.. I think this welding and redrilling is quite expensive here, so I'll stay with my stock tires. But I'll Keep that in mind, because 15 Inch wheels would be much better due to more choice in tires.

I don't know if you get Ivecos over there... but the transit sized ones have the same stud pattern size as your transit

The Ivecos seem to have a different offset but not sure.. What is the offset of the 14" Transit tires?

I just found some stock rims on the web and they seem to have an offset 55. How about the IVECO ones?

Just to bring this post up again... I thought if maybe those transit twin-wheel front wheels might fit? From the picture, that I found on our forum here it's an old transit maybe mk2 if I am not wrong, see this thread: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=159549&p=1416262#p1416262

Hey there,

I know this is an old thread, but I am still thinking about the tire problem. Does anyone know anything about the tires of the red Transit in the pictures above?

Sorry for my English.. wanted to ask about the rims not the tires.. Also talked to the owner, they are from an old Iveco.

Just thinking about the rim problem again.. Can anyone tell me some details about the 14" Mk3 wheel? I am searching for the following information:
- wheel offset
- exact specs of the rim
- load ratio

My idea is to get some Iveco Daily rims, which are also PCD 6x170, 130mm middle hole wheel offset 104, which I guess is a problem. I think I remember that my wheels have an offset of 55, but not sure anymore and don't find infos. So if it is, there are two options: let somebody reweld it (--> big issue for mot in Germany I guess..) or fit them with an adapter-plate (--> more load on the bearings and less solid in total..)
I lately found some offroad Iveco rims with an offset of 33 and am wondering if they could fit.... Problem is that it's a private person selling them and he is some hundrets of kilometers away. So either I buy them or I don't, no chance to try out and return them..
Would really appreciate a discussion on that issue, as I am thinking about it for some years now. And yes, I do other stuff in the meantime ;-)

I just read a little bit on Wikipedia and gathered some information about the rim offset. After that I started measuring my spare wheel rim, inner part of the rim with the following results:
- Outer edge to seating: 14cm
- Width of the complete rim: 16,5cm

Wikipedia says, the offset comes up to half of the outer-edge-to-seating-distance in millimeters, so 140mm/2 = 70mm --> offset 70 (and not 55 as I thought to remember)
Please correct me if I am wrong about that. Of course, measuring all that I substracted the tire which is on the rim. Best would have been to measure the rim without the tire, but that was not possible.

The Iveco Daily rim has an offset of 104 or 108, so let's calculate:
108 x 2 = 216mm Outer edge to seating (Iveco)
140mm Outer edge to seating (Transit)
216-140 = 76mm difference
--> positive offset means rim comes outward, negative offset means rim comes inwards the vehicle
--> The offset of the Iveco rim is higher than the one of the transit rim, so the Iveco rim on the Transit would mean the rim comes 76mms more inwards, which would not work without modifications mentioned above (reweld/distance-adapter)!
