fuel pump swap 1987 di / turbo engine with mechanical pump

Postby martin lewis » Thu Apr 19, 2007 5:35 pm

any ideas ? my 87 di has a cav pump and early injectors , i have been given a new 96/7 cav pump but it is designed to work with slim type injectors , it is identical apart from the fuel pipe outlets meaning no 1 cylinder outlet is in the wrong place . does anyone know if any other di fuel pipes will fit , my other thought is to move the timing round 90 deg, any thoughts appreciated . also has anyone fitted a turbo engine with a mechanical pump and still have full power , just an idea as i might convert mine,

 Put some pictures up

We'll soon be able to tell you what pumps you have

As gemini said, the only Lucas pumps fitted from '95 were the fully electronically controlled EPIC ones that have a large 15 to 20 pin multiplug connector on the back

cav pump

Postby martin lewis » Fri Apr 20, 2007 11:51 am

i have found more info on the cav pump it is off an Ldv DI engine on a 'r' no plate it seems ldv carried on using the cav pump with the late type injectors, i have a friend with a 1990 lwb 190 which has the early pump and late injectors , i have checked the outlet positions and they are also 90deg out compared to the 1987 pump . i know the turbo only came with epic but i am thinking about fitting a turbo unit to my van and i would like to ditch the electronics , i know the Bosch mechanical pump will fit but will the power output remain OK any thoughts appreciated PS thanks for the replies
