if you check pump plunger lift with a DTI ? got any links to buy 1 ? i cant find 1 for love or money :(

Thousands of them on the bay for 16 to 20 quid (with the magnetic stand) wont be "precision Engineer" quality but would think they would get you to within design tolerances

Hi, This is what you are looking for . I was banging on about DTI timing of pumps last week but very few people were interested!

I found a guy in Amsterdam (NL) that offered me an LDV starter with the text "If it doesn't work or break I'll replace it for free as I've got plenty and they are good. I though most owners don't take care of their engines and leads and therefore only want a big one.".

My van starts smooth in any temp (flame starter does work) and if @home I tend to first run 45 minutes of HotFrog (electric pre heater) just to save the engine a bit.

I spent 2 years tinkering w timing, cables, twin batteries and other stuff too, inc 2 small starters....all in order, still rubbish starting on cold mornings....bunged big body starter in just to see ...turns engine so much faster....62quid recon...and perfect cold starting...whats not to like? :-)

Ignore that it says 2014 its wrong.

Its 3 bolts holing it on, plus the nut for starter cable and a spade connection for relay. Straight swap.

Assuming he hasn't just used the wrong photos in the listing and it is a 2014 starter he's selling

I'd pay a bit more and get a recon unit like thishttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111538726742? ... EBIDX%3AIT

The one thing a lot of people don't find till the last thing they look at when a mk5 is a bad starter... The fuel lines to and from the lift pump, my old mk5 had a lot done to get it to start well and in the end I found the joints were loose and were letting air in the lines.

I used to be in the "needs a jump to start" club, even bought a mains starter. Finally bought a new Bosch S5 battery and have had no probs since, still using the small starter.
To me, the give away is that if the engine will start when you give the starter the proper amount of power, so it can turn the motor fast enough, then the battery ain't up to the job. (All things being equal, cables etc.)

Cheers for the various answers guys I have had battery and alternator checked at kwik sh*t but tbh they didnt seem that interested was telling them I can only use tail lift once / twice at most and battery is dead and that cant even leave it 24 hours or it needs jump starting. I have even brought a 12v 10w solar panel for on the dash a really big one not the small ones you find at halfords and that doesnt even help. Its not only when i use the tail lift i can just be going out for a drive 10 - 15 miles come back home park up and go out in the morning it will try for about 3 secs to start then click click click here we go again
