Good afternoon boys and girls
Hoping some of the more technically minded amongst you will be able to help me out. I have a 2000 (mk5) with the 2.5 di rated at 85ps.
I want to up the power a bit in order to make towing a race car slightly less comical.
Just a few burning questions, as I don't know a huge deal about turbochargers.
My manifold is a straight one, not a banana, by the way.
I've seen a few turbos and manifolds on the Bay of E, which look like they'll fit. But I'm not sure.
So if you could help me out with the following, I'd appreciate it
- Is fitting a turbo a simple bolt-on job (obviously with oil feeds and intercoolers) or will timing need to be advanced/retarded? (stop giggling at the back)
- Is the CR low enough to handle a mild blowing on?
- The ones on fleabay are from the MK6, rated at 90ps. Will the Mk6 ones fit the mk5? The manifolds look exactly the same (pipe fitting, feeding and fabrication is not a problem)
- Whats the deal with the different power ratings advertised?
The 90PS, for example
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-2006-For ... 27f5511cf8...presumably that comes off a 90PS engine, and presumably it'll make more power than 90PS on my 85PS engine, which suggests the n/a power rating of the engine it came off would be a lot lower, ie the engine was designed to make only 90 with the turbo? Is this right or am I completely barking up the wrong tree?
I'd like to hope that a turbocharger will make more than a measly 4bhp!!
It is my understanding that, given the correct manifold, any turbo can be made to fit any engine, but obviously going too big means massive lag, which I don't want to do.
As I said, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ta very much
