1999 2.5tdi intermittent pats immobiliser fault

Postby modman » Tue Apr 21, 2015 12:08 am

Hi, I have been getting the occasional problem with my pats module refusing to unlock for around 5-10 attempts with reinserting key i.e the led flashes fast preventing starting (flashing code it gives means no communication with pats module). Usually happens when am away from home but ity has often done this on the first attempt but been fine on the second. i have 3 keys and have tried all three but still the same. When it plays up it will take quite a few goes for the led to stop the rapid flashing and go off . I dont know if its the reader around the key barrel but have unplugged it and plugged it back in, also the pats module plug. The code makes me think its between the key reader and the module but I really dont know for sure. A new reader would be the best place to start unless someone here knows different? Also , would a replacement reader need coding to vehicle or not?

many thanks

Reader is a seperate module from ECU and only requires the correct transponder in the key to work.

Have you made sure the current reader is securely fitted and all wires are secure?

If all else fails, being Turbo Diesel you can't bypass the PATS unless you ditch the epic.

Hi, thanks for reply and advice.

i just sold the van as decided it was all to much potential hassle as no one in my area has a clue about the workaround that people on here know about. A reader is still available from ford out of interest but costs £130! All connections were ok with no loose wires or anything. It was behaving itself again but with my local old boy ford expert saying its all obsolete and crap that just did it for me!

cheers

It was most likely the ecu "hold" relay in the aux fuse box :|
Never mind.

Hi there brand new to the forum any help would be greatly appreciated.
2000 2.5d engine died pats code 3:2 checked wiring throughout found break in cable to fuel pump, repaired but no change, chased cables further upto pump and the three cables fell out from back of pump   green and rotten . Obvious pats fault was rotten cables to pump. Now I'm stuck ! I'm guessing the most cost effective solution is to bypass the pats circuit all together? If anyone would be grateful enough to share the information on bypassing the pats circuit that would be amazing :D can prove ownership etc thanks
