The tachometer stopped working.
I thought that the output W on the Mitsubishi generator was broken off.
I took off the generator, washed it off dirt and oil, the lead was in place, but damaged by corrosion. I cleaned the rust. I installed the generator, started the engine.
The tachometer does not work.
I went through the wiring, I found an open circuit.
I connected the wires.
The tachometer works!

More windscreen repairing today. I managed to form a nice smooth(ish) corner. Not long now until I can get a new screen put in!

I measured the fuel consumption for my MK3.
40 liters for 515 kilometers.
7.7 l / 100 km or 33.6 mpg

I saw that oil was coming out of the engine. I thought that the reason was in the bad rear oil seal of the crankshaft. I bought a new oil seal and 5 liters of oil and began to think when I could replace the oil seal.On closer inspection, I saw that the buster pump was unscrewing.I screwed the nuts, set the locknuts, the leak stopped. An epiploon will be installed on the motor, which I now repair.

power steering pump replaced and stuck bonnet open

Postby rebuilder86 » Wed May 02, 2018 9:59 am

What a releif.
Power steering pump was leakng, the shaft was so worn a new seal wouldnt have soted it, so I got a new aftermarket one off ebay for the equivalent of a good days pay.
However bonnet release lever somehow let the release cable go, inside the engine bay so bonnet was stuck shut.
Had to damage the bonnet to reveal a bolt on the headlight, and removed the grill to get to the other headlight bolts to get the left headlight off to try to reach up in there and release it.
I couldnt and had no idea how the mechanism worked but looked up towards thaat area with a torch, and saw what looked to be a lever. I then stuck a 30cm steel rule up towards it through the headlight hole and pushed it and .... wallah. it opened.
Once that drama was out of the way, i ziptied the release cable to the lever so it could never jump out again.
AS for the power steering pump, im always nervous trying to get air out of a power steering system. The reservoir return line comes in to the reservoir at the bottom, so any bubbles are quite quickly sucked back across to the outlet. My solution is to jack the wheels up and put the chassis on axle stands jsut so that half the usual weight is on the wheels. This ensures the PS racks valves open to suck fluid through, then u very slowly turn from lock to lock about 10 times. wiht a minute of idling between each cycle to let out foamy air to the top of the reservoir away from the outlet line.
All sorted and now no more leaking!
also stuck a bottle of liquimoly stop leak in the oil to try to stem a slow oil leak from teh front of the engine. fingers crossed

Hello, rebuilder86!
If you have a left-hand drive, then the hood can be opened easier.
To the lever of the bonnet lock you can reach out by hand if you lie under the car.
I opened the hood several times.
If the lock is open, but the hood holds a protective hook, you can make a hook from a thick wire, slip it under the hood, hook the hook and pull it toward you.
Recently I had to open the hood so.
Three years ago I replaced the rear left wing, but did not paint it.
Today I began to clean the wing of rust to paint it.
For cleaning rust I use three types of tools for the angle grinder: a petal abrasive wheel, a circle of steel wires and a soft abrasive circle "piranha".
The strength was enough only to clean up part of the wing.
I covered the pure metal with an anti-corrosion material and a primer.
In the lower part of the wing I found through corrosion.
"A bad head does not give hands to rest" ...
