I didn't do it, and it was yesterday I photographed it, but here's how the rear end is coming along.

1. In the foreground, you can see the work in progress. He's patching over a table hole that was put in for the original table mount (The current one is further towards the front of the van). In the background you can see the replacement section of floor and replacement wheel arch he fabricated based on the remnants of the old one. That's not just patched on top of the old floor ... the old floor has been removed.

2.Plate on the other side, including reinforcing bars, and patches to the wheel arch on that side ...

3. From the back looking in. The centre panel at the back is also needing replaced, that's next to get done. And I asked if I can get the bumper straightened out too. Reversed it into a bollard

Large amount of work, but he's doing a good job!

Not shown in these photos is the front ... complete new floorplan welded over top of what was left of the old, both steps reconstructed, new sills.

A new bumper will probably cost less than the labour charges for fixing what you have

It has to come off anyway to weld a corner, and he says he's got a press that'll square it up no problem.

Everything out, floor cleaned and rusty parts painted. Also, picture to show how well transit custom floor fits!

Fitted a new 12mm marine ply floor. Well OK, he did most of the work ... I just did some varnishing.

No pics, so it didn't happen ;)

I am now at the stage where I need to decide what to do about the paint. Offered a very favourable price to paint it (complete respray) but I don't know if I have the money :(

However, I would get to pick whatever colour I wanted ... Thinking about this ...

DROVE IT!!!

Yes, it was finally complete enough to drive, so I drove it home and unloaded all the loose campervan bits into the lockup.

Goes back tomorrow for an MOT ...

Still no news on the MOT. He said it would be in a day or two ...

Started making a gas locker for the gas cylinder, using 12 mm ply that came from an old packing crate. It took HOURS to get 4 pieces of straight wood to make up the 4 sides. Oh if only I had power tools! I was going to be all fancy and dovetail it together but ... meh ... too much hard work. The cylinder is round, and smaller at top and bottom than in the middle, so wooden batons on the inside it is, for ease of construction. Plan is to screw it all together, get it right, then take it all apart and Sikaflex on all the joins to make it reasonably gas-tight. Then, unless I make a total arse of the wood, varnish it. If I make a total arse of it, black paint :D

I think it may be about time I started a Progress Report, and perhaps (in the absence of the actual van) I'll start it tomorrow with the gas locker.

Rear bumper & corners off, rust to bottom of quarters wire brushed then painted. All back together - ready for another year.

Half-built a gas locker for the butane cylinder. I suck at woodwork :P

Took front wheel off to investigate a noise.

checked bearing/bottom ball joint/trackrod end for play first.
Wheel nuts were bloody tight. 240v. Impact gun wouldn't touch them.
Used the manual method of me bouncing on the 3/4 drive wheel brace in the end.
Source of the noise. Shim on the pad had become detached and was rubbing on the hub. ImageImage

Waah! I miss driving mine, instead being stuck with a shitty Seat Ibiza with a wonky engine :(

It had an MOT a few days ago.

It passed on everything electrical, mechanical and stoppical (brakes...).

It failed because some of the chassis sections are rotten. Is there ever an end to the welding?
