Guys, I have a question.
I always watch TV Discovery with "one eye".
One of the programs is called "Wheeler Dealers." There, two British, Ed and Mike, buy, repair and sell old cars.
Yesterday Ed was repairing the "glass" of the front suspension rack.
He cut out part of the body from the donor body and welded it.
This he made savings of £ 300
Is it really expensive in Britain for bodywork?
I'll take $ 50 or even less for this job.
There work for two hours ...

Replaced the middle (metal) part of the rear bumper with one supplied by tpuk. Only cost £24.95, good solid piece of metal & finished with a semi textured grey coating. Delivered within 24 hours. Very happy & have ordered rear corners to go with it.

2005 mk6 280 lwb, gone bang.
1996 mk5 190 lwb, gone.
1998 mk5 80 swb, gone.

Its mostly labour cost, the garage near me charges £60 per hour plus the parts :D wheeler dealers have now moved to the USA and edd has left, its now mike and ant. N

IF you can find anyone willing to repair rusted bodywork, they will mostly charge you £55 per hour, plus VAT, plus materials, with no guarantee that it will last. I paid over £1000 to get my Mk6 welded, mostly underneath, to pass an MOT a few years back, and 3 years later it was almost in the same state, so I had to get rid of it :roll: :(

My country does not evaluate time, but work.
Replacement of one body panel from 50 to 100 dollars.

Three years ago I changed some of the body panels and did not even paint them.
They are slightly damaged by rust.
Probably, this is the influence of the climate.

Several years passed before I really learned how to weld MIG welding.
But now few people can compare with me. :D
I also learned how to solder brass and copper.
In some cases, this is better than welding.
It is not enough to be able to work with MIG welding, you need to be able to properly install repair panels to keep body lines and gaps between panels.
This takes longer than welding.

In 2010, I made a compressometer from the pencil nozzle Stanadine to measure the compression in the cylinders.

Then I gave it to a friend from Odessa, Ukraine.
Now I'm again busy making a compressor, but so far unsuccessful ...
Then the measurement showed a pressure in the cylinders of 36 bar.

I have two cars: Mk3 atmospheric and Mk5 turbodiesel.
It so happened that in 2015 both motors broke down and I had to repair one immediately with the replacement of the cylinder block and the crankshaft, and another to buy at the dismantling for $ 1000.
Now I want to have one motor left.
I bought a block of cylinders, I have a crankshaft and a cylinder head from a turbo.
I always had to find out the difference in the design of the heads of the atmospheric engine and turbo engine.
The design and arrangement of combustion chambers in atmospheric pistons and turbo pistons has a visible difference.
I believed that the nozzle channel in these heads has a different arrangement.
Today I checked the point at which the atomizer nozzle is pointing, applying atmospheric turbines and pistons to the cylinder head of the turbomotor.
The end of the nozzle is directed to the top of the protrusion in the combustion chamber of the atmospheric piston.
And on the slope of the protrusion in the combustion chamber of the turbomotor piston.
Conclusion: the difference in the design of the cylinder head of the atmospheric engine and turbo engine is minimal and they can be used on any engine complete with the upcoming HEAD nozzles.

The turbo head has a 2 mm deep in the nozzle outlet, so the turbo nozzle is 2 mm shorter than the atmospheric nozzle.

Yesterday there was another failure. :oops:
In winter, I cover part of the radiator with a curtain-so that the motor does not cool.
It was cold enough -5 gr C, but because of the curtain the motor overheated and I lost about 7 liters of coolant.
It's good that today is a day off and I do not need to work.
In the morning I bought a coolant, filled the system and started the engine.
Frost -7 gr C, the motor wound up instantly. :D
