Just been spending the day taking out all the campervan bits from inside, so the coachbuilder can lift the ply and have a look at the floor underneath. Saved me a few hundred quid in labour. But means I'll have to put it all back in again :/

He was welding bits at the front while I was taking stuff out the back.

Some interesting things were found during disassembly, such as the fact that the output wires on the 240V MCB were loose ... :o

Shocking ...

Also, the repair panel he got doesn't match the side of my van. The side sill of the van has had a patch repair done over the original body, and the body juts out further than it should!

1 slice of either brown or white bread will do(I tried with both)
tear pieces off the slice and push then into the centre of the bearing to fill the void behind it.

Use a hammer and something that is a reasonable fit in the centre of the bearing
to act as a drift.In my case a 4lb hammer and a 1/2" drive T bar.
stuff the hole and then use the hammer and "drift" to compress the bread.
keep stuffing the hole and compressing the bread until enough pressure is created to pop the bearing out.

don't forget to gouge the bread out before fitting the new bearing

Nasty bearing out and new 1 fitted in under 10 minutes :D

I've been told it works with thick grease as well (the drift would need to be a good fit though)

I see! I suppose you could use Plasticine or anything else that's compressible ... but some breadcrumbs are unlikely to cause problems in the engine and the filter would probably catch them - but Plasticine could screw up bearings.

The bread will not go in the oil/bearings

oh well 50/50 chance of getting it right.
there's something written on it but i didn't have my glasses

IMG_20170409_115746.jpg

centered the plate using the "finger" method. i'm confident it's spot on.
Might dig my "tool" out just to check,if I can find it (7 years since it was last used)

oooooooooooooohh shiny :D

IMG_20170409_120853.jpg

meanwhile the gear box is "marinading" in pound shop oven cleaner to get all the oily gunge out of it

IMG_20170409_102954.jpg

forgot to mention the gearbox mount was worse for wear.
stuck it for now with toolstation "stixall" (poor mans tigerseal)

Just checking haynes for clutch torque settings.
ahhhhhhhhh 30nm

Used the van today and..............

clutch nice and light as compared to the old one.
no leaks evident in the bellhousing/under the van :D

on the down side :(

resealed the diff inspection plate.(it's been weeping for ages)
took the plate off and
stuck my gloved hand in to scoop as much of the old smelly oil out and came
across this.(not the £2 coin)

chunk off the pinion
bearing had a bit (a lot) of play so I adjusted it and took it out for a test run.
No vibration or clunking.
could it have been like this for the 2 years i've had the van?

next question......
Are the pinion and crown wheel machined as a pair?
or
can i just buy a pinion to match the diff ratio?
and............
how to set pre load at home

on a plus it's not neds Tdci
