None of those in the fourteen advisories but I expect they will top the list this year. :(
While poking around removing bits of mangled front axle, etc. I dared to look up and saw a bloody great hole next to the top shock mounting tower. Last year I was bricking it because the driver's step area started to collapse and I thought if the tester weighs any more than me he will go through it.

Did some more work on the interior. Finished insulation. New ceiling. Bulkhead with passage to front. Just trim and a table to do now.

Yeah, caissé should have been cassé (which does mean 'broken') :)

the second one was supposed to mean 'the van is constructed of a majority of oxidised metal' (rust) ;)

Fitted my replacement switch (it finally arrived from Poland on Thursday) and refitted the clocks and stalks, enabling me to take it for a drive for the first time in two weeks. At least this time, having removed the dodgy switch that was draining the battery if it decided to switch ON, the van started first time no problem.

I really need to start on redoing the interior. I want to insulate the roof and build in some more (or at least better looking) cupboard space.

A Mondeo Mk2 clock swap is on the cards for next weekend ... :)

Now, regarding the clocks. Sometimes if you swap them, the fuel indicator goes the wrong way around. First question is, how does the fuel indicator work? For instance, it stays in the correct position even if not supplied with power, and then when you turn the key on, if you filled it up while it wasn't running, it moves to the correct position. How does it do that?

I've come up with two possible theories:
1. It's a magnetic lock that comes into play when the power goes off, or;
2. It's a closed hydraulic system that moves the needle (therefore, all you have to do to make it stay in position is have a normally closed valve so that when the power goes off, the needle stays where it is because the valve closes).

I am leaning towards no. 2 being the answer, because if you fill it up and start the van, it doesn't instantly move straight up; it rises slowly. Am I correct?

If so, if it reads the wrong way around all I have to do is find the three wires going to it (supply, signal and ground) and swap around signal and ground ... no?

HI ANGUSP,

Sorry for the delay, we have just had our second son!
I'll be (when I get some free time) welding the new panels in with a Sealey mightymig 130xt is my second unit as the other was shared with my uncle and has restored countless classics.
The one I have now I got secondhand and idid some small repairs before the boy arrived and its a very smooth unit like my old one and would highly recommend one for a home/hobby welder. Nice and compact. I'm running this one off a fire extinguisher which is much cheaper than the little co2 bottles.

Also like you I wonder were the water comes from on the passengers side footwell/step. Really annoys me!

Poe.

Is it easy to hook up co2 extinguisher to regulator?

Repaired (hopefully succesfully ... there appear to be no shorts) a set of Mondeo clocks, which will soon grace my van once the mileage is adjusted (It's only illegal if you wind it below the current mileage ;)).

Not the world's best soldering job ... but those wires in there, they're off an Ethernet cable. Very small, and if you heat the connection up too much, the plastic film PCB melts. If I had not got a loan of a good quality temperature controlled soldering iron, I fear it would have ended up a melted mess. I had to make 10 connections; in the end I melted one and had to make an eleventh. Not too bad ;)

Err ... does anyone know if the speedo module from a non-tacho Mk5 will slot into these Mondeo clocks?

That speedo is more complex than I thought it'd be. From the feel of the way the needle moves, I think it's an electronic stepper motor in there.

If I can't swap the module, what's the trick to getting the needle off and on, and getting it in the right position? You have to go in from the front; the back is all boxed in (Presumably to prevent tampering ;) )

Part number on the Mondeo clock is 97BP-SPEEDO on the front; full part number is 97BP 17255 ...
