mk5 gearbox oil leak

Postby jmprince80 » Sun Oct 02, 2016 2:52 pm

Sorted the oil/water/fuel leaks engine side, now left with one last problem....

Gearbox appears to be leaking oil from the top where there is a plastic plate fixed on with 3 torx bolts.

Looks like previous owner f*** it up a bit as the plastic around the bolts is snapped, and they've used large washers to attempt to hold everything in place.... oil leaking from there and working its way round the sides of the box and pooling at the bottom.

Also appears to be gb oil in the bit surrounding the shaft

I drained gearbox oil today and it was at about 0.75L :/

I don't have any MT75 gb oil, but what im gonna do for now is mix the remaining oil with another 0.75L of 75W-140 as thats the closest i've got to the proper stuff until I can order some on monday, its not gonna cover many miles until its drained again and filled back up with MT75, probably better to have enough oil in there even if not quite to spec than only half full of spec'd stuff as I will need to drive it...

Does anyone know if the seals around the gearstick and at top of the box are hard to replace? Ie any special tools needed? Also, whats the plastic bit thats cracked called?

i would take it out (the base) & if you cant replace it put some sealer round the base , make sure the breathers not blocked
