injection pump Ford mk5

Postby Meli » Mon Jan 02, 2017 12:40 am

Hi,
We have a 2000 2,5 Td van. Our injection pump is leaking the gasoil quite strongly from the side of the pump in between where the top and bottom parts are joint together. (Sorry if my expressions are not correct, English is not my mother tongue. I hope you will get the problem, though.)
We are currently in France where only diesel specialists seem to be able to touch injection pumps. Do you think it is worth checking if the pump can be repaired/renewed? Can this be only a minor problem? Or are they doomed to replacement once they are leaking? Another question is, if it needs to be replaced (this is a Lucas pump), is it possible to replace it somehow with a Bosch pump? So far, I've only found a second-hand pump, which is originally obviously not for this van but for a 2,5 D motor, code 4fcvm4, from 1997, which was not a turbo engine. Does anybody have any experience with fixing a turbo van up with a non-turbo pump?
Thank you in advance for any comments!

Hi, There are plenty of turbo vans with the non turbo pump. You will need the throttle pedal and cable plus pump and injector pipes ( I think you can use the EPIC pipes but it puts the timing 90 deg out ). You just connect a ignition feed to the stop solenoid on the back of the pump and turn the fuel up. You will have to play with the timing I here you have to give it full advance.

Can you show us a picture of where it is leaking from?

Epic pipes do not put timing 90 degrees out, but the do need bending slightly to meet the outlets

Here it is , this is the right side of the pump. first picture from a video, the drop can be seen about the middle of the picture just leaving the pump body. The second "dry" pic unfortunately turned around when attached, so you have to look at it as if it was 180deg counterclockwise. Now the drop on the first pic comes from the lowest part of this second photo below the serial number. Obviously leak can come from behind this part, from the bottom of the pump somewhere, but due to gravity, this is where I see it dripping.
If you have any idea, I am very grateful. Sorry to say, but my experience in France is that mechanics don't like to bother about older cars, so I (being a girl) always have to do my homework well and suggest what to do, otherwise there is no creativity shown and a ripoff is highly possible. Today a diesel specialist told me I should buy another car, which I am reluctant to accept. :)

A leak is common from the "square seal" which is on the sensor on the side of the pump next to the engine. Unfortunately the pump needs to be taken off to fix it, but its not a specialist job to do

Thank you! I will try to look if it could be flowing through from that side!
