Tires... will they fit? 215/75 R15 BFGoodrich All terrain

Postby eresseraca » Sun Jan 29, 2017 8:04 am

I'm running Nokian 225/70/R15 studded winter tires...

I'd like to run some beefier AT tires in the summer. BFG All Terrain come in 215/75/R15.

Anybody tried that size, narrower but sidewall 75 instead of 70... will they rub?

Where do you live that you need studded winter tyres? Would like to see what a transit looks like on bfg's

I doubt there would be any problem fitting those. I looked up the dimensions of both sizes athttps://tiresize.com/and there is less than a third of an inch height difference and one inch extra circumference that will make your speed about 1% faster at the same revs so your speedo will be up a little.

So long as the load rating is high enough there shouldn't be an issue

From experience, more circumference = faster speed for the same speedo reading, may be just enough to trip a camera. Your speedo will read low, i.e. 30 on the dial will actually be about 32 on the road and so on. 60 could be 65.
Best check it with a sat nav.

Weight rating won't be high enough the said tyres have a weight rating of 100/97 so won't be heavy enough for a six stud transit assuming with it being fitted with 225/70/15 110 rating (normally) before that's what your fitting them on :!:

pigroaster, up in Finland, so studded is the way to go with our nordic winters... imo :) Whichever I choose I'll be sure to post some pics for you!

MinorMatt & twin wheel camper you are correct, the one's I was looking at were: LT215/75 R15 100/97S 6PR All-Terrain T/A KO2... DANG! Thanks for pointing this out to me though.

Seems almost impossible to find a All terrain tire with enough load rating for a 150 LWB... Sucks!

The only one that comes close is the Bridgestone Dueller at 225/75R15C 110/108S. So the new million dollar question is, is it impossible to squeeze 225/75R15 on the Mk5?

I had 225/75r15 on my SWB on the alloys.

SOOO, I guess it's possbile... or what do you guys think? (and I guess I have to recalibrate/change the speedometer gear in that case)

IRC Bridgestone Dueller's are standard fitment on Mitzi L200's, a lot of people soon replace them as they are terrible off road and on wet tarmac.

rimotu66, the L200 stock tires are the HT version I think, Bridgestone Dueler H/T 687, load rating 105T.

The one's I'm looking Bridgestone Dueler A/T D697, load rating 110/108S

There's no tire though that looks as tough as the BFG All terrain though, so that's def. what I would want.

How do the fire department do it (see pic/link below)... if the load rating is that much too low, the car's the same 150 lwb right... don't get it , they just ignored the load rating? :D  Of course they might not load it full as it's a speciality vehicle with one purpose, but still... or are those 16" wheels with something like 225/75...would give a load rating of 115/112S. Anyone with a good wheel size eye

They are most likely a larger size 235/75/15 maybe then the load rating might just get you away with a 150 model

Take a look at Wrangler Duratracs. They look aggressive yet not too noisy on pavement.

What about these? http://www.fedimatyres.com/en/tyres/com ... /winter-ms They are commercial and load rated to a Transit 190. I have them on mine just now, good road manners and not too noisy.
