snapped bolt

Postby grumpygramps-2007 » Thu Feb 09, 2017 9:36 am

my first question on here so be gentle. I snapped of a bolt head on the bracket on the exhaust end of the banana manifold. the other one is also snapped of but not buy me. got myself one of those bolt removers were you drill a hole in the bolt then screw it out. question is I was told the bolt has probably welded it self in due to the heat & this is why it snapped off. will I still be able to get it out & whats the best way. cheers gramps.

Don't use an easy out type extractor, it will break and make it next to impossible to do!

Best bet is to drill a pilot hole (say 3mm diameter) dead center, open it up to 6mm then use an 8mm to finally drill it out. if you buy a reverse 8mm it will probably pick up and unscrew whats left of the stud... if not open up to 8.5mm and pick out the threads.

you can always drill out to 10/10.5mm too and replace the stud with nut & bolt
