All the rocker bolts are correctly tensioned and with the rocker cover off, oil flies up from the the push rod holes (as well as the rocker arms). She gives 80psi on cold start with 5w30 oil.
The only thing I haven't replaced is the oil pressure release valve (can't get hold of one. The plunger moves but I think it has play in it and is catching, would have thought it would still open though. Spring is 55mm long. Less smoke around 50psi when she is hot.
Tried a bypass from the filler cap (as the inlet is at inside) and no oil collected after 400 mile in the catch tank.
What kind of psi are other people getting on cold start and then while running?

New oil cap off TPUK seems to have sorted my oily intake dilema.
Pipe from new cap to the oil catch tank is nipping clean :D

it actually suprised me.
I was changing oil too often due to the engine drinking it about 3000 miles after it was changed.
Oil change and checked every morning.
same
same
same
for ages :D
3000 miles and oil is thickening.
1/2 way down dipstick
New cap and feeding into a catch tank then venting under the van (a bit frowned upon)

No oil loss to report 8)

How have you set up the catch tank? I tried just venting the current cap through a 3 ft pipe across the bulk head with a down pipe to a milk bottle under the master servo (heath Robinson I know) lots of vapour but no oil!

(Haynes say 39-70psi driving typical and 15 idle psi)

Hi just saw the post and i think its what my mechanic heard after the turbo poop itself in our van and turbos take oil from the motor and run in oil so it sounds a likely candidate
if it's not broken don't fix it and Don't panic there is always a solution
