2000 Mk5 injector pump question

Postby overloom » Fri Mar 03, 2017 2:49 pm

Dear folks,

I'm from Australia and I just got a 2000 Ford Transit VG model (I assume its a mk5) and the diesel injector pump (Lucas Epic) is not working. I am trying to get a new one but couldn't any here in Australia. I am new to these things and have been reading up a little. I have some question to ask. Hope some folks will be able to help here.

1.) What is the difference between Lucas Epic injector and bosch injector?
2.) what are my options to get my transit running again?

Thank you and best regards,

Lucas EPIC pump can be replaced with a Bosch pump, with a few modifications, unless it's an autobox :!: :)

1997 Mk5 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (Gone, but not forgotten!)

2008 Mk7 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.2 TDCi - Also Vantunered

You could convert to manual gearbox otherwise it's Lucas epic only
There is a earlier pump that may work but very hard to come by over here.

It is leaking and there are some electrical problems with it. The gear won't change up not sure if that's a separate problem.

Twin wheel camper, is it costly to convert to a manual gearbox?

You can fit DSA1096, DSA1190 or DSA1191 pumps without issue (ideally you should fit the correct one though).

Not changing up is likely to be a seperate issue.

To change to manual you will need

Gearbox
Propshaft
Gearbox support crossmember
Clutch fork
3 piece clutch kit
Flywheel
Flywheel bolts
Clutch pedal and cable to suit (2 different types, I would suggest fitting manual adjust if you have a choice)
Gearstick & gater
Plastic gater clip (a plastic bit that is riveted to the floor in the van and surrounds the gearstick hole).
Speedo cable (if its a cable van)

I think thats about it but may have missed something...

To give you a rough idea of the excessive cost of Transit parts in Australia I recently replaced my manual gearbox and clutch with a reconditioned gearbox $3300, clutch $300 so it would probably pay you to check where the leak is on the pump.
If it is the hall sensor seal the last one I bought was from MTQ in Melbourne ($3 plus postage) and it is a good time to replace the timing belt and tensioner as well - cheaper to buy these from UK than in Australia.

Hi overloom, sorry I'm a bit later to post this, I'm in aust as well.
I just had my injection pump repaired by a guy in Sydney, mine was just the pump leaking and it hadn't got into the electrics yet which was lucky.
this guy was doing exchange pumps for around $1500.00.
I also saw one on ebay for about $1350 exchange as well.
if you would like I can pm you with the info or pm me your number and we can chat.
hope it gets better soon

Hello,
you write : You can fit DSA1096, DSA1190 or DSA1191 pumps without issue
But is it really easy to replace one pump by another one.
I own a Ford transit 2,5L turbo diesel from 1998 equiped with a Lucas Delphi Epic injection pump DSA 1190 - ref 8720B050A, but this one has a leak and the fuel is falling down.
I have found a DSA1191- ref 8720B031A, do you think that I have just to replace the DSA1190 by the rebuilt DSA1191 ?
Is there any trouble with the Pulley, the belt or with the ECU ?
Thank you for your help.
