smoke on startup, mk5 non turbo '97

Postby crystalvoyager » Sun Mar 19, 2017 9:18 pm

hi folks, can anyone tell me any possible symptoms for the problem my van has developed - i'm getting a puff of smoke on start up. the van runs ok the rest of ther time. I've disabled the egr years ago. would it be ready for an injector service. or something more expensive. cheers folks

There could be a few different reasons; has it had a service inc. new filters, and has it had a new timing belt :?:
1994 Mk4 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (R.I.P.)
1997 Mk5 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (Gone, but not forgotten!)
2004 Mk6 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.0 TDDi - Vantunered (Also gone)
2008 Mk7 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.2 TDCi - Also Vantunered

Excecessive fuel in exhuast due to cooler weather cranking or valve stem oil seals.
Oil in the inlet?
The list is almost infinate even on these simple engines.

Hi if you start and let run for a while turn off and then start again does it still puff out smoke if not it sounds more like oil leaking past the valve guide seals over night just my thoughts
if it's not broken don't fix it and Don't panic there is always a solution
