Asda have oil going cheap

Postby CamperVanBeethoven » Sun Apr 09, 2017 12:48 am

Not sure if it may just be local or nationwide, but I scored Asda Ford 5/30 fully synthetic oil for £13 for 5 litres (knocked down from £22). I got three bottles to cover the next 2 oil changes.

Worth checking out ;)

(cue 100 responses of 'I wouldn't put that sh*t in my engine' :P )

Having done the sums, I'm thinking of going back and getting another bottle :D

4x5 ... and it's about 6 litres a go ... three oil changes :D

I always try and make a detour round to the motoring aisle every time I visit, because I guess occasionally they overstock and then drop the price to shift it ...

Now, second question. What oil filters are best? Last time I just got what Halfrauds had on the shelf, but maybe I should go for something better...

Just found this ... Might be worth checking regularly :) The deal I mentioned is up there. By the way, it's not just the Ford stuff, when I looked it seemed that all their own brand stuff was knocked down from £22 to £13 ...

Mann filter and drivetec oil

Van filter and oil £9.23
Car filter and oil £8 (and that was silly dpf oil) £66 worth the year before!

Did you forget something, gotcoalman? ;)

Anyway, I couldn't resist it. I went back and got a fourth bottle. Sure OK that works out £2 more than the cheapo ebay option, but avoids this ...

This in a local factors but i prefer Castrol as put in cheap stuff few years back and the rattle tappety noise was way more noticeable so never again and for the few extra dollars i have piece of mind and a quieter engine using Castrol...just my experience

Do you mix it in with the diesel and hope for the best, or just run it straight?

ive only put cooking oil in mine for 3 weeks now. runs ok ive always used cooking oil in warm weather when its cheap I buy it for the summer transit 25di will run on any veg based fuel ive also used paraffin in past but cooking oil does stink and its a little bit slower staring in cold but once warm I find it runs cooler and pulls better and does about the same on mileage used it for over 10 years now change fuel filter every 12 months engine oil & filter every 6 months never misses a beat

I picked up a load of oil in Asda a couple of years back, my local one has a small section there constantly changing (gardening/back to school/oil's,coolant and car wash bits) they where swapping to suitcases and sh*t and had 4lt bottles castrol gtx for £4 each ! I bought 12 bottles ! Lmao had a work shop at the time so got used up servicing.
