Hi
I brought a 1989 Transit with the 2.5Di engine a month or so ago and have taken it on a few shake down runs before the southern Spain trip in July.
As expected there were a few electrical niggles and bits that needed sorted but apart from them there are a few other bits id like some advice on.
Firstly, It likes to jump out of 3rd gear when De-accelerating all the other gears are fine, its just 3rd which i think is a bit unusual considering its normally 1st or 5th that has the problems. it has the type9 5 speed box, is there a locking pin that could be worn or is it likely more terminal?
Secondly, is it normal to be having to drop to 2nd gear on long inclines? I am used to my 300tdi defender which isnt fast, but the 2.5 does seem to struggle on hills and thats in Suffolk so am not sure how well it will do when faced with anything substantial!
Despite all that, the engine is great and runs perfect and i would be reluctant to change it due to its low miles (37k) its just the gearbox I would like to sort if possible.
Cheers
