Identify vehicle and need to do a service

Postby andytw » Thu Apr 13, 2017 10:00 pm

Bit of detective work done. Please correct me if I am wrong. Then a question or two.
Friends have bought a camper. It was originally an army ambulance.
From the V5C the first registration is 1/6/2006 but manufacture date is 1997. I presume it did not have documentation when the army owned it.
Going by the manufacture date of 1997 and the picture of the front I believe it is a :-

o 2nd generation (1986-2003)
o and 2nd Facelift (1994-2003)
o AKA Mk 5 (Smiley Face)

Have I got that correct ?

We need to do a service. I can match filters with like for like but wondering about oil spec and quantity.
Eurocarparts imply fully synthetic and 6 litres, Yes/No ??

Thanks

Try a Ford ETIS lookup by VIN:

https://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do

It will give you the make/model etc as originally built

About the only thing you get out of them for free :P

Ford now say 5w30 across the fleet, even if the original handbook says different. And yes, 6 litres.

And Asda are still selling suitable oil at £13 a bottle (get the red bottle). Or, see the other thread I posted here about 'Asda have oil going cheap' ... there are some online options if you're prepared to put up with the hassle of courier companies (Or just have it delivered to your work ;) ).

it's a little over 6l.
Di 6.15l
Tdi 6.25.

when it was made ford recomended 15/40 mineral.
they changed their minds a while ago and now it's
5/30 synth.

If you have any "less than perfect" oil seals they will start to weep using the
thinner oil.

I compromise and use 10/40 semi synth.
Only because I can do an oil change on my car and van using the same grade.
10l does both (just)
ne m'écoute pas je suis plein de merde.
A house without a dog is like a forum without a BJT.
Too bloody quiet

Thanks for all the replies. All noted.
VIN checked against ETIS. Build date was 1996.
10 litres of ASDA 'Red' Ford 5w30 oil purchased today.

Thanks
