Refurbish type 9 or upgrade?

Postby jaycey001 » Sat Apr 22, 2017 7:36 pm

Hi

I will be driving my mk3 to southern Spain and back in July and need to sort out my gearbox as it jumps out of gear. I've had some quotes to refurbish my existing box with new gear set, bearings and seals etc and am looking at about £420 plus cost of dropping and refitting box. The other option is changing cross member and prop and then fitting the mt75 (not sure of cost yet)

What would you guys do?
And if you think upgrading is better then can anyone recommend a mechanic in Suffolk who would be up for doing the job?

If it was me I would be fitting the MT75, my brother went through 3 type 9's in the mid 90's with his mk3 in the space of a year. They are fine for cars just not heavy vans.

Anyone able to recommend someone in Suffolk, Norfolk or Essex who would be able to do the upgrade at a sensible cost?

Am I right that I just need an mt75, mt75 crossmember (from any wheelbase?) And a lwb prob....

He was Kent, has he moved? You could try the Bentley boys in Clacton, on e bay they offer a fitting kit for an MT (Bentley boy 2000 or similar)...
