Old question - sorry!

Postby tuk841 » Tue Apr 25, 2017 11:14 am

Hello - I'm new to the forum! Bought a restored 1997 120 low-roof ex BT panel van last autumn via a seller on ebay. Runs well and I'm enjoying it.

I'd like to add some bling and up the gearing some (8-10%) so am looking at alloys. I have read all the threads and there seem little choice when they written and virtually no choice now.

I can see ebay is awash with mk6/7 5x160PCD wheels. I read that these use the hub to centre unlike the mk5 that uses its studs.
So my question is:
What does this mean on the ground? - can mk6/7 alloys be modified to fit or the hubs on the mk5 altered?

Thanks very much in advance for any help, and apologies again for raising the subject which I have no doubt has been done many times before (but maybe not recently?)

Counterbore the bolts holding the front discs on and fit cap heads.

Get a 60 degree countersink and countersink the wheel nut holes.

Use car/mk5 alloy wheel nuts

Thanks very much for that Matt! - so I have gone ahead and bought a set of 6.5J x16 steels from a newish van, delivered today, similar to eBay item number:222014958085

Just taken taken off a front wheel for inspection - if I understand correctly I have to remove the disc bolts and counter-bore each hole to allow capped bolts to drop-in flush - may I ask if you have done this and if so any pics? is there enough material around the holes? and would you have a spec on the cap-head bolts please?

I haven't personally but Luke has.

Pull one bolt out and measure its length, you just need a caphead the same lengthx
