Alternator wiring question

1997 mk5 alternator question

Just about the wires, please. Large thick wire, obviously main output B+.
But there are 2 others. Both thin. They are Grey and black stripe and Blue and black stripe
Really want to be able to identify D+
Don't understand need for a 3rd wire

All wires are bolted on.

Got it...bit more Googling needed...the 3rd wire Grey with black strip is the rev counter.
