spring suspension bracket

Postby coeno » Tue May 16, 2017 9:34 am

Helo, do have some problems with my 1986 camper van.

The front suspension did come lose, the fitting on the chassis was completely rotten and did snap of, luckely on a parking place and therefore i need now some pieces to repair my camper van.
Did already find some new chassis parts which i can fit and reweld but i still am looking for a left and right front spring suspension bracket.

These are nr. 16 in the drawing. I am looking for 2 new one's when posible.

I am not 100% sure but these may work, if not I am sure a little modification would get them too fit but do check first. I found these with the older part numbers...

If you fit the later "arms" (the ones in the top of the photo) you will have to weld a heavy washer with a 12mm hole to each side of the hanger (most new hangers are copies of the Mk3 item and you have to do this when you fit these hangers to a Mk5 anyway) the later arms are more plentifull when it comes to finding good used ones.....not too bad a job to sort out......to remove the arms from the main subframe you have to take out the front fixing bolt that fastens the subframe to the chassis and then 2 small torx bolts that fasten the arm to the subframe.....these are often rusted and seized but they can be removed by grinding the captive nut off from above and be replaced with 2 new nuts and bolts......

That's what I was hoping for, I didn't say just in case it was false hope, the later suspension parts are more available as Mr RVM says. Good luck with it. Let us know how you get on. :D

thanks you all for the input.

This job is a bid larger then hoped for but i did find some used 1987 and 95 brackets abroard for little money which are looking quite good......

It will be an combined job for several modifications. Do have an turbo engine laying around for a year now, power steering and now have to replace these arms + weld the new mounting for these on the chassis aswell... also think it is now the monent going for a "new" 5 (front) gear box in stead of my old 4 speeder.

will keep you informed over the next months.
