Floor pan mat for mk5?

Postby CamperVanBeethoven » Sat May 20, 2017 12:27 pm

Anyone know where I could get a floor pan mat for a mk5?

Not just rubber mats for the footwell but the one that covers the entire floor pan ...

Very hard to get new if at all now, but if you look at this site... http://catalog.autopartmaster.com/?acti ... d_model=81 You can get the part number and search from there. But I think the best bet would be the transit centre Dudley, they are transit breakers and very friendly and knowledgeable.
How is the welding coming on? :)

Hmm that's straining my ability to read Cyrillic (Yes, I can read most of the letters ... don't know all of them but do know most of them)!

The welding's done, but getting the thing back is just dragging on and on :(

That site hardly helps at all. It has eleven different part numbers for 'Flooring' and eleven different part numbers for 'Front Floor Section Mat' :(

I'll just tell him to chuck the one I have back on. I bought a rubber mat that can go over the top of it ...

OK, so I'm thinking of "restoring" the mat.

Now, I'll never get it back to the way it was when it came out the factory, but here's the plan:
1. Chop up bits of this (which I have spare) to fill in the missing bits of foam. Glue on with contact adhesive from a spray can.

http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/ ... 20-x-180cm

2. Paint the lot with Liquid Rubber roof sealant to seal it.

http://www.wickes.co.uk/Isoflex-High-Pe ... L/p/137241

Or alternatively:

2. Buy sheet rubber and use contact adhesive to stick it on, to seal the mat. This may be the safer option since until I buy it at great expense and apply it, I don't know if the Isoflex would melt the foam :(

The coachbuilder cautioned me that my crappy degraded mat was probably the source of a lot of my problems with rust in the front, because it was absorbing water and retaining it. So I have to do something. A new one's not an option, alas :(

I'd go option two and make new, wouldn't using a lot of roofing stuff give you a lot of odor when it gets warm?

I am kind of going for option 2 now but with available materials - polythene groundsheet from B&M ;)
