2.0 pinto cambelt failure

Postby colly 695 » Thu May 25, 2017 4:07 pm

The cambelt in my mk3 tipper has just failed..........was idling at the time, no strange noises or anything - engine just went off as if id turned the key.
Any potential damage done on a 2.0 pinto?? or are they as bullet proof as ive heard?

Cheers

Davie

the 2 litre in the mk3 cortina was just a case of stick a new belt on cos pistons didnt hit valves... i guess the transit ones are the same

seem to remember the 1600 was different. piston hits valves on them.

Just a thought.......i tried cranking the engine after the belt had gone......didnt know why it stalled so first reaction is to restart.....would this have done any damage? - wasnt any compression just starter motor turning - so hopefully not, but cant help asking if anyone else has been in a similar situation.

deffo a non interference engine.
Had several in cortinas,granadas,sierras.
Belt goes and just line marks up put new belt on and all is good. :D

Ive had them go on 1.6/1.8 and 2.0.
Don't remember taking the head off any of them to get it running again.
Also stuck a 2.0 head on a 1.6.
ne m'écoute pas je suis plein de merde.
