2,5 Di Turbo 1997, engine change, electronic problems?

Postby matthias » Thu May 25, 2017 8:30 pm

Hi,

unfortunaltely the cam belt of my Turbo "snapped" (see another post), so I possibly need to change the engine.

Got already a complete spare van of the same year of manufacture, but a few month later.

Will I need to change the ECU after the installation of the new engine, or in other words, does the new engine work with the electronics (ECU) of my car?

And another: I possibly change the engine complete with the MT75 gearbox, but the one of the donor car has an electronic speedo, so the speedo "pick up" of that gearbox must be different to mine (with speedo cable).
Can I use the new gearbox (think so)?

Thanks!

Matthias

If you're lucky, remove and straighten any bent pushrods, fit new belt and time engine, refit pushrods, reset the clearances and all should be well. ..so I'm told.......

I did so, repalced the push rods, but the engine seems to have no compression and does not start, so I`m ressuming that the valves are also damaged.

I was lucky!

After fitting "new" pushrods (from my 95 Transit with 76 PS Banana-engine) and adjusting the valve clearences (what I fisrt didn`t!), everything seems be ok.

Thank you!

Thank you!

(But I got my old engine with the bended pushrods (after snapped cam belt) running again)

Matthias

By the way:

If my Transit would be of better condition I would have a further thinking of an 2,9 Cosworth conversion...... (still have "a few" of these) ;-)

For future reference...

If you fit a turbo engine from a mk5 into another mk5 - you don't need to swap ECUs or anything like that. Nothing on the engine is coded
