Clutch problems

Postby linsey_young » Fri Jul 07, 2017 5:54 pm

I've just fitted a new clutch to my mk4, and something's not right... The fork is sitting too far forward

Image

The auto adjust is working, and has basically taken up a whole load of slack.

If I pull back on the fork, it moves and leaves about an inch or so between the pressure plate and the release bearing.

The fork seems to be in good condition - doesn't look to be bent and it feels like it's attached to the pivot.

I can't get my head round it... Are there different sizes of release bearing?

Any ideas?
If I knew then what I know now, I'd have taken it to the scrapyard...

Glad I didn't though :)

Try a new clutch cable or did you put the pressure plate the right way round? I'm the member you met in the Aldi carpark.

Hi there - I've had another look at it today and got my phone inside the bellhousing to take pictures. It looks like the fork has rotted through where it sits on the pivot. The wee pivot mushroom is actually poking through the fork... New fork ordered, so I'll be pulling the gearbox out again. It's like the hokey cokey with this thing...
