I would say definitely ask your friend to give it the once over, if he thinks the welding is doable then definitely have a go, I would have it, but then I'm married to muttley who can fix things for me lol. I would have to change the furniture, a scrap caravan would be the donor. Everyone has their own opinion of these things, do what you feel is best for you and yours. Good luck

Looking at the pictures it looks like one bad repair after another, once you start cutting out the rot I don't think you would stop u till you have replaced most of the underside.

Me personally would buy a van and convert it into a camper, it'll work out cheaper in the long run. N

I'm surprised there are any Mk4-Mk5 transits left, going by the "scrap it " brigade. The pics look bad but so did mine four years ago and it's still running.
Ignore the nay sayers and have your welder give it good going over with the rusty transit tool ( a light hammer ). Let him give you an experienced opinion as to what can be done, is he willing to do it and how much it will cost. He's the one who will say yay or nay.

If he say nay then walk away.

I think that Ned has it there. It's already been (badly) repaired to get it MoT'd and it looks like metal that the repairs are supposed to be welded to is rotten. Even if you enjoy welding and that's your idea of an interior I'd say £400 is still too much.

It looks like a converted minibus, which itself was converted from a van, so it wouldn't surprise me if all the windows in the back have rust all around bottom and water has pooled in the bottom of the wall cavity. You won't know unless you strip EVERYTHING out.

Find a van and start afresh.
