Air con and fan problem

Postby Celticbiker » Sun Jul 16, 2017 10:24 am

Hey guys, I don't post on here very often as I never really have any problems that aren't fixable but I've just come back off holiday and could do with a bit of advice re the air con.
I noticed the temp was getting high on a long hill so I pulled into the services and found the radiator fan fuse and the cab blower fuse had blown.
Turns out that if you switch air con on it blows the rad fan fuse, also there's a rattle from the air con pump area in the engine bay.
Oddly, with the cab blower off it still runs a bit hotter than normal but put the blower on full (cold not hot) and the temp drops immediately.
Any help much appreciated.

Sorry, it's a 96/97 mk5 2.5 td auto.
Yes it does have 2 radiator fans.

Think I might have got to the bottom of this.
I've replaced the resistor pack and it seems to be working OK now.
That is to say, the air con can be switched on without blowing fuses and the cab fan runs on all 3 settings although 1 and 2 seem very slow compared to 3.
Air con appears to be dry as well for some reason, it was full before we went cos I checked it.
