You have my sympathies - I have a 1987 motor home with the same engine, but with the original vv carb. I'm trying to get my carb off to refurbish and would relish some help from an old hand used to these old buses but most mechanics now have only only worked on the newer computerised and fuel injected systems. I've tried a couple of mobile mechanics but it looks like I'll either have to spend a fortune in a major garage or keep trying to sort things myself.

The VV is detailed in the Haynes petrol transit book, no.1468. It can be a sod to remove but well worth it when sorted.

There's a book on ebay now..........in Oz....... Try your local library.
Avoid the Del Orto and Weber 34 ICH unless you get the correct jets and choke AND the complete fitting kit.

Ive put into a local mechanics .the old school type Where the old timers love these engines. The workshop was full of carbs, crankshafts and cyclinder heads which kinda gave me a good feeling. I will let you know how it goes
