Transit MK5 Buyers Guide?

Hi All,

I am currently in the process of looking to buy a van, having bought a terrible Vauxhall Vivaro I am now looking for an "oldy but a goldie".

The van in question is a MK5 Smiley with a 2.5 diesel with an auto box, first of all any advice, noises or shakes to look out for there? Belts and filters have been done.

In terms of rust on these vans what is deemed acceptable? The one in question has had £500 worth of welding for the MOT, which makes me wonder... it does have some bubbling in the arches but I can treat this with some rust treatment such as Hammerite Kurust.

I also took a look at this post: http://fordtransit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=180899 I'll avoid a van such as this.

Any other advice? Apolgies for the questions, I am complete Transit Newb...

If it's an auto it will have an Epic fuel pump ( fly by wire throttle ) can be very problematical & you can't convert to a manual pump.
