Running without thermostat?

Postby jaycey001 » Tue Jul 25, 2017 5:14 pm

Hi

I've changed the thermostat on my 89 2.5Di and it's running allot cooler but I am now on my way to Spain and the gauge sits on the M of the "Norm" range when I'm doing lots of motorway miles.

It's going to get hot out and I was wondering if it would be ok to run without the thermostat (it sits below the "N" with it out)

Let me know is what you think - it's probably the sender that's faulty but my French isnt great!

Many thanks

James

No problem running without 1 in the summer or warm climate :D

In winter it'll take longer to get up to the slightly lower operating temp and the heater won't be as warm.

The bottom plate of the thermostat blocks the bypass port when the engine is hot. Without a thermostat the engine will overheat!
