Ford RS2000 DOHC swap into transit DOHC van

Postby Capri1985 » Tue Aug 01, 2017 3:46 pm

Hi Guys,

Has anyone on here put a 16v RS2000 DOHC engine into a DOHC transit? Ive aquired an RS2000 engine for my van, from what i can see it looks to have the drilling/taps in the block for the mounting etc from my transit engine? axcilliary brackets/mounts etc seem like they can be swapped over from one to another, if its the same/similar block from what i understand then it should mate up to the tranny gearbox? only really issue i can see is the inlet manifold/chamber being on the other side so modification to the bulk head or chamber to fit other than swapping that over from the 8v too but that would seem pointless and probably restrict the engine as i assume the inlet is modified for the RS2000 engine to gain more power?
Other than that it would be wiring to sort in order to run the ecu that came with the engine which the guy claimed is tuned/remapped or chipped.... i did ask this question awhile back on a page and somebody said they worked at a dealership back in the day when the mrk5 trannys were new and they plugged in a ecu from a sierra or escort? and it worked in the van and gave it more preformance as they were smoking it up in the car park afterwards....not sure how true this was but iv not even looked at the ecu in my van to see if they have same plugs or anything as the ones ive purchased with the engine....

Anyone on here played with these twin cam transits much? ideas? thought id ask the question before i remove the engine out of the van to offer them up side by side and check bell housing fittment etc

Thanks in advance,

Mat

When I had the head off my Serra 2lt xr4x4 it had pockets for 4 valves in the piston tops

Yeah i was under the impression that they are the same via the heads, i know you cant change the heads over from one to the other, but that be pointless if your trying to remain the actual RS engine for the swap, from what i can see /tell it should marry up in there on the standard transit mt75 gearbox and the mounts/ hardware should swap over from one to the other as holes etc seem to be there in the block on the RS2000 motor even tho it was from 4x4 escort originally.

also while thinking of it, iv got a dohc transit mini bus to strip as well, from what iv read on forums, the mini bus axle has a different diff ratio to the rest of the vans ay? better top end ratios?

Thanks guys

The minibus think is a load of rubbish. Vans and busses were all available with the same ratios

The best way to gain power in your Van and the easy way to go is to put a 2.3 block in, not sure if you would need to remove the balancers, then put your 8v head on it, no need to worry about ecu, inlets or outlets. The 2.0 dohc is at peak power and there is nothing you can do worth while to get any more power out of it. It is a derivative of the RS2000 engine.
I dream of going the down the 2.3l road myself but don't yet need to.
