Temperature getting high - few pointers would be helpful

Postby jaycey001 » Wed Aug 02, 2017 12:23 pm

Hi all

I made it down to the south of Spain in my 1989 2.5Di,
About 3 days ago I had to take the thermostat out as it got stuck shut. It ran fine for a few hundred miles but when on the mountain roads and in 3rd or 2nd gear the temp needle creeps up to the M and occasionally just above the M in the gauge. It cools back down when I am back in 5th gear and going down hill.

The head seems fine, no pressurising or coolant loss and the rad pipes are not hard, water pump is also new and cam belt is aligned properly.

I am thinking of taking the rad off and giving it a clean but is there anything else I should check?

Thanks allot for any comments/suggestions

are the little air passages in the rad clear... with a hose down the engine side you should be able to blow water through and out the front. mowing hay we used to get a carpet of dandelion seeds over the tractor rads , like a bloodyb duvet.

Hi

Just took radiator off and found some thick waxy stuff in system it's sticky like wet play dough! This is at least part of the problem!

Will flush it all out with something and test it out later in the week.
