Mkt transit No electrics at all?

Postby MikeMc » Fri Aug 04, 2017 1:19 pm

Just parked my Ford transit 2000year van up, came inside for a cuppa goes back out turns key and nothing!
No lights. No horn. won't turn over ? Dead as a dodo!

Had a new new battery put on last week.
Tried another battery on it still nothing!
Been reading and wondering if it could be this PATS system ?

Key is very warn ! And really could do with being a new cut.

Any advice would be great
Cheers Mike.

PATS won't stop the lights or horn working, so if it's 'dead' there's possibly an issue with the battery connections :? Is there a flashing LED for the PATS, or is that dead as well :?:

 Try using jump leads to 'override' the battery leads

My money is on corroded battery leads. Been there, teeshirt etc.
If you can use a test meter,
Check 1. The resistance between battery neg pole, not the clamp and engine block and body shell.
Check 2. The voltage between battery pos and body ground whilst cranking engine.

Look for green oxidey stuff around the clamp to cable join on both battery clamps. I replaced mine, no more probs. Surprised your lights not working. Check batt. neg to engine lead attached to starter bolt. Check battery to body earth on front panel, follow the thinner negative lead from the battery. Check the positive supply lead is tight.

Well sorted.
Firstly I have removed the Pat's system because it has been a pain for ages.
So that's gone.

The problem was the second fuse next to the battery!
It had corroded that bad underneath! And you couldn't see it from the top..Had smash it off to get it off...put a wire across and it started straight away !
All that for calling in for a coffee!!!

At least I have got rid of the PATS and now all working great.

Thanks for suggestions
