Fuel pipes/hoses , leaky snapped injector tips ? Even miniscule corrosion may be the culprit !

Just flinging out ideas ..

Have you got the "external lift pump" with the super push fit connectors?

Fuel filter.
Is it a genuine 1?

No wetness on the leak offs.

All nut type fittings tight (back of the pump and injectors)

Although air ingress is pre pump.

Check the lift pump fittings first.

I don't know prices or availability but could you not drop another lump in it ?

As you said it'd be a shame to get rid of it now with the work/money been put into it so far!

Good luck

The prices of complete vans and parts vans would make your hair curl. A decent (?) running smiley with test from €3000. A parts only wreck being asking €1000-1500.
Another lump could make sense if I could get one at UK prices. Then pay for transport, and rental of an engine crane. Oh, and hope for a bit of dry weather. No garage.

Haven't checked the lift pump connections. Fuel filter is not genuine but only a few months old. Air filter was changed at the same time. Leakoffs were dry before my marathon bleeding sessions at the roadside. All nut type fittings are tight and dry.

After market filters cause problems :(

So do the silly push fit connectors.

Cheap/free initial test.
Undo/wiggle push fits and smear some grease around the joint (should seal an air ingress leak)
failing that
Change the filter for the more expensive propper one .

Its worth a try. I still haven't managed to undo any of the push-fit connections so I will try squeezing the two little bumps with pliers to see if they will release the tube. If I break the fitting I'm no worse off. "Proper" fuel filter will have to be ordered from UK. French Ford dealers will want €50 for one and since all my cash comes from UK via the apalling post-brexit exchange rate buying anything here sucks.

You posted earler that you had concerns about failing the MOT due to rust. I would bleed it and put it in for a test now, whilst there is a modicum of fine weather, and see what happens.
If it fails badly you can the decide what next to do, repair or ....whatever.
If it passes invest in at least one, if not a set of new injectors and persevere.

sellers will ship to France.
Damaged packaging @ £1.99 + £13.90 p&p
Is it still the same postage if you buy more than 1?

A sensible strategy indeed, except it doesn't bleed now. I can crack all the injector feeds and they seem to flow fuel, not bubbles but it still only sounds like its running on two pots. When I loosen the feed to number four it dies altogether. Until I can get it to fire on all four it just pours out black smoke so won't even dream of passing a test.

Seriously cheap filters there. You can see what I'm up against with postage costs. One scumbag wanted to rush me £5 to post a tiny circlip! I suggested he could stick it where the sun don't shine and fart it across the Channel. :!:

Black smoke or not, you had concerns about rust so knowing it'll fail on smoke get it tested for corrosion before spending any serious money on it.

Thinks! Are you on a bosch pump? Try removing and cleaning the stop solenoid. If there's shards of metal stuck to it.........

Depending on how this comes out.
I've messaged the guy with the 3 filters in the knackered boxes.
Providing the boxes contain "intact" filters I'll buy them.

I have 1 spare at the moment.
A second would be nice :D

The other 2 wouldn't cost a fortune to send overseas.
it was under £20 to send 1/2 a tonne of rusty stuff to France
