Help needed for smiley price

Postby Audijonny » Mon Aug 07, 2017 6:47 pm

Hi all new to forums. I have the chance of stunning 2.5 di 1998. 1 owner 68000 miles. Never welded electric pack. But how much is it worth. He wants £5000 if i am lucky maybe £4000. What is the going rate for a minted tranny of tha age. Forgot to say it is swb med height in flare red.
Many thanks.

That's a lot of money for a 19 year old van. It all depends on whether you intend on keeping it clean or using it as a it's intended, as a working van. Any picture?

Thanks for the reply. I eould keep it. Every car and motorbike i have is showroom condition. I would do slight mods to it turn it in to day van. If you go on to interweb at mercury motorsport leven fife there is about 20 pictures.

Then it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If you like vans and have the cash then why not? Better someone buys it who will look after it than builder pete who will cover it in plaster and paint and the thing will turn into every other smiley on the road.

That's mega money for a smiley especially a stock swb. The mileage isn't low enough to justify the price IMO.

That looks like it's been resprayed. It's too clean

This panel looks bodged up at the bottom towards the rear wheel and the lines arent straight.

Certainly looks clean....ish. Lift the floor mats, are they wet? Look for overspray etc. Check the door bottoms, especially the back doors. Check the front and rear outriggers. If the front or rear mudflaps are missing, that's a good indicator of repairs in that area.
Really needs a good going over with an MOT testers' rust seeker.
Demand a new MOT cert. Very difficult to believe at 20 yrs old it's not had any welding.
If it checks out, maybe £2000 tops.
