If it's a 1990 it'll more than likely be a 205 block and gearbox will be an MT75......
If it was down a cylinder then it probably was due to a burnt exhaust valve and (or) seat because late 80's early 90's they were still fitting "non unleaded" cylinder heads........
As for value then yes 205 blocks are worth a (little) bit more but to be honest unless the engine is being tuned for racing (ie revving to over 6000 rpm for extended periods) then an old 2.0 block can be just as reliable (in "normal" working conditions) as the "stronger" 205 block......con rods fitted to 205 blocked engines are stronger too but again not much in it....(they will both snap just below the small end if revved over 7000 rpm unless they are lightened)......so I reckon (and it's only my personal opinion) that your "not very well " engine and an "available cheap everywhere" MT75 box are worth around£100/ £120 the lot
(some may disagree)
