Pinto spares inc gearbox -

Postby CamperMad1 » Thu Aug 17, 2017 4:43 pm

Hi wondering if its worth selling the spares from my transit afyer wnfine swap.

Engine was down a cyclinder and running rough , after a carb refurb ( weber 28 tdlm) it was still poor so decided to swap for a banana diesel from a complete van -
Anyway i have all the spares if the garage let me have them back , so wondered if they are worth selling one. Clutch and gearbox was fine and carb had been stripped and refurb

Any money back will help pay the garage bill £££££££

Thanks

Always worthwhile putting some pictures up...as with all things, never one when you want one but then three come along!! May help out someone else

If it's a 1990 it'll more than likely be a 205 block and gearbox will be an MT75......

If it was down a cylinder then it probably was due to a burnt exhaust valve and (or) seat because late 80's early 90's they were still fitting "non unleaded" cylinder heads........

As for value then yes 205 blocks are worth a (little) bit more but to be honest unless the engine is being tuned for racing (ie revving to over 6000 rpm for extended periods) then an old 2.0 block can be just as reliable (in "normal" working conditions) as the "stronger" 205 block......con rods fitted to 205 blocked engines are stronger too but again not much in it....(they will both snap just below the small end if revved over 7000 rpm unless they are lightened)......so I reckon (and it's only my personal opinion) that your "not very well " engine and an "available cheap everywhere" MT75 box are worth around£100/ £120 the lot :( (some may disagree)

At that sort of money I would be interested to rebuild for mine. Assuming it is an MT75? Whereabouts was the reverse gear position? And where are you?

Carb is available and engine..need to check the gearbox.

My garage was going to rebuild but couldnt get the spares . So this would be great for spares or refurb the broken cylinder
