Postby dick » Wed Sep 06, 2017 5:53 pm

hello all, in the process of fitting a new engine in my 98 di, whats the best way to strap i up level on the hoist to make it easier to line it up on the mountings etc, I struggled a bit when getting the old engine out, also anything I should do or shouldn't do when ready to crank over when all hooked up any help much appreciated,
cheers richard

The best way I have used is to take the engine and gearbox out as a unit useing the Ford engine mounts and makeing up a wire strap .but now you can get the a adjustable engine lift like they use on wheeler dealers that would be good bit of kit to use

You will struggle to get a engine out of a mk5 with the lack of space with the scuttle with one of these,
I have enough bother with just the crane and a chain mounted as close as possible to the engine.

Crane chain.JPG
You need to get the 'ook as close to the engine as possible or it'll catch on t' scuttle. A piece of chain is best, snuggle the 'ook onto the head. A chain sling don't work (for me).

I found it easier to use a chain block to pull the crane out. The rubber wheels are difficult to pull over rough concrete and if you tug too hard on the handles it tends to fall over on you, or, in this case...me.
