mk5 brake and wheelbearing torque specs!

Postby atleladden » Fri Sep 22, 2017 2:14 pm

Hi

I will be changing right front wheelbearing and all brakes around the car this weekend. I have all the oils, loctite, parts and tools. But just found out i cant find the torque spesifications anywhere. Probably important for the wheelbearings, but also the brakes! Anyone got them?
I have ordered the Haynes manual, but i need it this weekend, preferably in a couple of hours actually.

93 Long wheel Base 6 stud axles. Non-twin wheel. Drums rear, and discs front.

I don't think you'll need any torque settings for the work you intend to do. When the new wheel bearing is in place just put the hub back on and wind up the big nut at the same time as turning the hub by hand.. When it gets too stiff to turn back off the nut about a quarter turn and fit the split pin. Give it a short drive and then check for excessive play and then tighten a little if necessary. There is meant to be a tiny amount of movement.

Taken from Haynes 3019

brake caliper anchor bolts 109nm
brake caliper sliding pin solid discs 25nm or vented 31nm lower pin and 50nm upper.

wheel bearing gives torque settings BUT needs to be adjusted back for end float.
Do this by feel.
Nip the bearing with a socket and then back the nut off until it's just tight enough to prevent play
but not too tight to burn the thing out in 200 miles.

lol need to stop going to the toilet after starting typing and before posting
