Postby oirishman » Sun Sep 24, 2017 9:49 pm

Hi i,m new here...hope someone can help..i have a 1999 ford transit 2.5 turbo it runs well on the flat but if it hits even a slight hill it dies off dramatically...no black smoke..i have to gear down to 2nd sometimes..any ideas would be appreciated.

Happened to mine 2.0 petrol after changing carb and everything else ended up being one cylinder down :-( .so i recommend a compression test before spending any time or money

engine air filter....and make sure inlet duct is clear and clean
fuel filter
engine oil and filter

are the basics and fix most

dont forget the timing belt if it hasnt been done in living memory
then getting more expense and hassle , valve clearances , recon injectors

Good service is the answer as already said
Sometimes the torque sleeve sticks so 2 stroke in the fuel will sort that
Mines a non turbo and will quite easily go up hills at 70mph without problem
Service every 6000 miles and banana of and cleaned every year and my egr valve
Is still connected

I reckon it probably just wants a fresh fuel filter and valve clearances done, but a properly timed shiney new cambelt certainly won't hurt.
