Front wheel bearings Mk5 99

Postby stalwart » Sun Nov 19, 2017 6:03 pm

Hi,been ages since i posted here, basically because my smiley has been faultless except for one problem i'm now at my wits end
In the past year this will be the 3rd front wheel bearing i'm having to replace btw O/S/F
Ok 1st lot were elcheapo form evilbay, lasted 2 months,2nd lot from fords(thieving gits) after 6 mths they to ended up collapsing, ones i have in now bought from bearing brothers,i get other bearings from them for other things have done for ages so well trusted.
Yes i do know how to fit them and have tried the best ways i know, using the correct torque and the old spin/tighten/spin/slack back/tighten method, never over tighten them and have a slight/very slight play in them, well greased up but not over packed, cant see anything wrong with the hub etc,i dont mount kerbs or go off road  bloody hell i'm lucky if i do 200 mile a month in it all my work is local :D
Can i add its only the outer race that goes never the back larger one
So guys, whats the problem as i'm stumped  :?:

There must be something wrong with the hub. Personally I'd just buy a complete secondhand hub and fit it, could save you a load of grief in the long run.

Is the stub axle worn or have you not fitted new outer race every time and if new race fitted is it tight in the hub

I agree keef about the hub,but unless its jumps out and slaps me around the face i cant see anything wrong which this is why its bugging me
