Help! Strange bump noises underneath

Postby rgutsell » Fri Jan 12, 2018 11:00 pm

Hiya.

I have a 1997 Ford Transit, 125,000 miles, no turbo, 2.5 litre engine. Converted to a camper van 1999. I love it, but I am stuck with the following;

Dull bumping/knocking noises arise, underneath, when the vehicle is on the road. It's NOT engine associated, and seems to be associated with camber changes on the road surface, and rough road surface. They occur at about 10-20mph but do not persist at faster speeds. Sometimes the noise seems to come from the rear, too, just to make it really annoying!

Both front springs have already been changed, and both front dampers also! Bearings on the front wheels have been tightened up, and the torsion bar bushes have been re done. The exhaust pipe is not loose and not hitting the body as far as I know.

Any ideas or suggestions......would be greatly appreciated!!

Could the torsion bar actually be knackered but not look as if it is?

Prop shaft centre bearing rubber worn? Give it a good shaking up and down.
