twin wheel axle question??

Postby oldskooler » Thu Jan 25, 2018 4:48 pm

ive got lucky recently and stumbled across a mk3 twin wheel axle from an ambulance that has an lsd fitted! 8)

unfortunatly its not a 4.63 ratio...just a 5.14

my question is can i transplant the mk3 14" wheel diff unit into a mk4/mk5 15" wheel axle casing??

it looks like the crownwheel will swap over and i know the splines in the side gears are the same by comparing the shafts.

Who's a lucky boy?

Of course the mk3 diff won't fit in the mk4/5 (or vice versa) so you will have to donate it to go in my stockpile

But in reality... yes the mk3 4 and 5 6 stud differential centers can be swapped without issue. So can crownwheel and pinions...

it was a lucky find indeed....it had actually been removed from the amby years ago and has been sitting in a hedge since!!! usual story....guy was planning on using it for a trailer in his dreams, lol!!

when i heard it was from an amby i knew it was worth having!!

cheers for the info...was thinking it would swap over but its good to be sure! 8)
