Diesel workshop manual vs petrol workshop manual

Postby NeilsTransit » Mon Jan 29, 2018 3:35 am

G'day from Downunder, I have a petrol Ford Transit and I can't get a hard copy workshop manual for it so is the Diesel hard copy manual the same except for the engine?
But hey what do I know, I'm only a gardener!

Petrol Haynes book, 1986-89, is no. 1468.
There's one on Ebay just now.

My Transit is a MK5 VG 120 SWB mid roof early 2000 model so I'm not sure if the the 1986-89 book will cover the later transit like brakes, steering, electrics etc

Haynes book 3019 covers Transit Diesel for the years 1986 - 1999 so most things will be covered except the engine.

For the engine, you could use a Sierra book, No 903, Sierra 1982 - 1989 covers the SOHC Pinto engine, but you'll need the later book for the DOHC engine, and I don't know the number of that one

2008 Mk7 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.2 TDCi - Also Vantunered

Thanks Altransit, I actually have a V6 Holden engine in my Transit so don't need the 2L engine info but do need everything else mechanical so as your saying the diesel manual will be adequate. The electrics is a bit different because of the changed engine and manufacturer but hey life wasn't meant to be easy as somebody once said! Thanks once again :D

Oh yeah, I forgot that you have proper engines over there, wait till you're stuck with the 1.0L ecoboost 3 cylinder "monster" which is what we have to put up with in modern Fords, if we choose petrol engines :x :P

Conrod, on here, but from NZ, has a selection of Transits with bonkers engines.
If you find some of his threads, they make a good read 8)
