Drivers door lock failure 1997 Transit

Postby rgutsell » Mon Jan 29, 2018 7:39 pm

Hiya

I have a 1997 transit (a smiley!).

The main key (ignition and doors...remember this oldie has no central locking!) does not open the drivers door anymore. It starts the vehicle fine and opens all of the other doors. That seems to imply that the drivers door lock is failing ( not the key).

Is there anyway that I can change the drivers door lock without getting a new key, and new locks for all of the doors?

Thanks

Mine had central locking, but key operated only :P 8)

It may be worth getting a new key cut, as it may be a case of both being a bit worn, and it's the cheapest option.
I know that you can build the ignition lock to match the key but I'm not sure about the door lock :)

Yes you can build door locks to suit the key...(I have a couple of barrel kits

But its worth trying a new cut key 1st

A set of new non-original locks costs about £ 15.
And a day of work to replace.
The bulkhead of one lock can cost more and it will take one day.
Replacement of door locks is not difficult, replacement of the ignition lock has subtleties.
It is necessary to turn the key to position "1" and press the latch. Then the lock can be removed from the socket.
