Mk4 Pinto battery, biggest CCA that will fit?

Hi guys,

My transit has never be a good starter and I remember some of my previous cars running pintos never turned over well on the standard battery.
Last time I did a an engine conversion I used a diesel battery but as that was a custom car I made the battery tray to suit.

So does anyone know what the most powerful battery I can use that will fit the standard battery tray and with the correct terminals the correct way around.

Varta E38 has a CCA of 750amps, and fits the petrol battery tray, 278mmx175mmx175mm but I don't know which side your connections are, as standard.
Positive is front right on this battery

Thank you I will check those out, same terminal lay out however mine are square post so will see if these are available.

You can get post adaptors, or just change the ends, or the whole lead, for the round post

You can also fit a slightly bigger battery by knocking the front and rear of the battery tray lips down flat.
